Big Data Application in Drug Control

Lincang is a prefecture-level city located in the Southwest of Yunnan Province, China. Due to its sophisticated and geographic environment, the city has always been the frontline and main battleground in fighting against drugs in China.

On May 16th 2018, along with the Drug Control Bureau of Public Security Ministry, Yunnan Provincial Public Security Bureau launched a security platform and named it “Yunnan Big Data Center of National Drug Control”.

The platform enables narcotic investigators in Yunnan province to maintain a close partnership with other law enforcement agencies in the country, thereby improving the exchange of information and increasing the effectiveness of their investigations. Since then, Big Data has become a new weapon in battle against drugs.

At the end of 2018, nearly a thousand of KEDACOM body worn cameras were integrated with the Big Data Center to better assist the Narcotics Unit in Yunnan province. During anti-drug operations, KEDACOM body worn cameras are applied to record videos with superior quality and transmit video / audio in real-time via 4G network.

While the real-time transmission can ensure a quick command and response, the recorded video footages can be used as valuable evidences for the successful prosecution of criminals involved in drug-related crimes.
